Yvette Powell Robitaille
Dr. Powell
Dr. Yvette Powell Robitaille comes to us from Tampa, Florida after a long career in teaching that began in 1984. She is assigned to teach English Language Arts for grades 7-12 here at Tesla, but has also taught reading, music, math, science, and social studies in Texas and Maine and now proudly adds Colorado to her list.
She has a BA in Elementary Education, an M.Ed. in Interdisciplinary Studies, an MA in Reading Education K-12, and an Ed.D. in Leadership. She has published articles and spoken at symposiums on effective teaching practices, questioning and discussion techniques, and emotional safety in the classroom. She worked as a district trainer in Hillsborough County, Florida as part of the Bill Gates Grant implementing secondary reading programs in comprehensive high schools and career and technical educational centers.
Her first career was as a jingle and backup singer in Nashville, Tennessee and Dallas, Texas, which she did for over 25 years. She chose teaching because her father said it was a solid career that comes with benefits. His advice turned out to be excellent and she has loved her teaching career. She chose to work at Tesla because every school day matters.
In her free time, she enjoys sewing, singing, playing piano and flute, but most importantly, playing with her grandkids.
She can receive texts and phone calls at 813-586-0903 or email yvette.powellrobitaille@d11.org.
She looks forward to getting to know the students and their families in the weeks and months to come.
